Happy Mothering Sunday

Thanks to Ruth Allen for sending me this quote today...

"Motherhood is the most precious gift of God. Mothers are the makers of a nation's fortune or misfortune, for they shape the sinews of its soul. . .If you want to know how advanced a nation is, study the mothers: are they free from fear and anxiety, are they full of love towards all, are they trained in fortitude and virtue? If you like to imbibe the glory of a culture, watch the mothers, rocking the cradles, feeding, fostering, teaching, and fondling the babies. As the mother, so the progress of the nation: as the mother, so the progress of the sweetness of the culture."

Tommy's - Help us - Corporate support - Brantano

Looking for a good excuse to spring-clean your shoe collection? Look no further - 2011 sees the return of the hugely successful Brantano New for Old campaign, during which you can hand over your old shoes in any Brantano store AND raise money for Tommy’s.

The ‘New for Old’ campaign asks people to give shoes they no longer want, in any condition, to their nearest Brantano store nationwide from 17 March – 10 April 2011. Brantano will donate 20p to Tommy’s for every pair of shoes handed in, in the hope of raising an amazing £25,000 to help us fund research into pregnancy complications such as miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth.

If you're ever in New York ..

Geminola was established in 2004 by Lorraine Kirke, a British designer. She is known for her breath taking interior design work.   Having exquisite taste in vintage fabrics Lorraine transformed her interior design expertise into a high end clothing line.  All of the materials used to make the garments are vintage fabrics ( pre 1950). They are found  all  over the world -ribbons from an old factory in Paris,  a beautiful bit of lace from Portobello Road, a crinoline skirt from Tennessee and we mustn't forget the flowered hats  from the Chelsea flea market.  Each piece is hand made, hand dyed, and one of a kind.   We  also make items for the home, hand dyed -bed linens, curtains, napkins, and towels. Geminola is about taking special old bits and pieces and creating a new beautiful frock made especially for you!

Back to "Normal"

Already the sounds in the air outside indicate that the world is still a bit sleepy but dragging itself back into the land of no fairy lights. It's kind of reassuring.....reminding us that whatever is happening, it will pass.... and that the only thing we can be sure of, is that things continue to change. Sometimes that's sad, but more often than not, eventually, it's for the greater good.

I remember lying on the beach in blistering sunshine, jumping over the waves, trying to imagine the weather being freezing cold and it was inconceivable. Today it's equally inconceivable to imagine feeling the scorching sun on my back, but I know the change will come.

Need to get my head out of vegged out mode now and clear the decks for the new year. Lots of good things on the horizon and I want to make sure the "out with the old", thing is done so I can focus on moving home - At last, space to DO stuff, and to PUT stuff, more stuff, vintage stuff, irresistible stuff, stuff I can't possibly live without....

Resolutions? is that realistic? for me of little willpower? Maybe goals is a better word. In my world full of lists, that will be a nice one to focus the mind.
